Fayose Accuses Makinde of Withholding Details of ₦50bn Support From Tinubu

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of failing to disclose what he described as a ₦50 billion financial support allegedly received from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking on Friday during an interview on TVC, Fayose claimed that the funds were provided by the President to assist Oyo State following the 2024 explosion in Ibadan, but were never openly acknowledged by the governor.

According to Fayose, Makinde omitted the alleged financial support when he recently addressed the public about his meeting with President Tinubu, choosing instead to focus on political discussions that took place during the visit.

“The President wanted engagement, he wanted certain appointments to be considered, but circumstances didn’t allow that,” Fayose said.

“But what you did not tell Nigerians is that, at the discretion and goodwill of Mr President, you received ₦50 billion as support after the Ibadan explosion. That part was never mentioned,” he added.

The former Ekiti governor further alleged that the money was handed directly to Makinde during his visit to the President and did not pass through the official accounts of the Oyo State Government.

“The ₦50 billion did not enter the state treasury. It came to you personally when you went to meet the President,” Fayose claimed.

He argued that while Makinde publicly highlighted his refusal to help reorganise the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, he failed to inform Nigerians about the alleged financial intervention aimed at supporting victims of the Ibadan incident.

“You told Nigerians only the part where the President asked you to help organise the APC in Oyo and you declined. You did not tell them what the President did for you and for the people of your state,” Fayose stated.

It will be recalled that Governor Makinde had earlier announced during a press briefing that he would not support President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, a position that has continued to draw reactions within political circles.
