Politicians Now Chanting ‘On Your Mandate We Stand’ Failed To Support Tinubu

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at politicians who recently joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), pointing out that their current proclamations of loyalty to President Bola Tinubu contrast sharply with their absence during the critical campaign period.

Wike made these remarks on Saturday while speaking at a thanksgiving service hosted by Chibudom Nwuche, Chairman of the South-South Development Commission, in Ochiba community, Ahoada East Local Government Area, Rivers State.

The former Rivers State governor commended residents of Ahoada East and Ahoada West for their steadfast support during the 2023 elections, noting that their loyalty contributed significantly to Tinubu’s victory.

“You remember in 2023, when Tinubu faced uncertainty and many doubted his chances, a lot of people hesitated to come out and vote. But here, we remained steadfast and said, ‘On your mandate, we stand.’ By God’s grace, we stood firm, and today he is the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” Wike remarked.

Wike also alluded to the recent defection of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, suggesting that the governor’s public support for Tinubu came too late.

“All these politicians now singing ‘on your mandate we stand’ were absent when their support was most needed. They could not even vote for Ahmed Bola Tinubu,” he said.

He further criticised those who prioritise personal gain over political integrity, adding that many projects recently inaugurated by his successor were actually initiated and completed during his own administration to ensure seamless governance continuity.
