Paul Pogba delivered one of the most emotional moments of the 2025 Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, using his Best Comeback Award acceptance speech to celebrate Cristiano Ronaldo’s lasting impact on world football.
The 16th edition of the prestigious ceremony took place on December 28 in the United Arab Emirates, bringing together football’s biggest stars. As he addressed the audience, Pogba singled out Ronaldo as a role model whose influence transcends generations.
The French midfielder described the Al Nassr forward as a source of inspiration not only to himself but to players across different eras, applauding Ronaldo’s dedication and legacy in the sport.
While Pogba’s tribute drew loud applause, the evening was dominated by Spanish giants Barcelona and French champions Paris Saint-Germain, who walked away with the majority of the top honours.
Barcelona’s teenage prodigy, Lamine Yamal, enjoyed a breakthrough night, claiming three major awards. The young forward was named Best Under-23 Player in LaLiga, Best Forward of the Year, and recipient of the Maradona Award for Best Young Talent.
Speaking after his wins, Yamal admitted that his rapid rise has brought new expectations, both at club and international level. He stressed the importance of staying grounded and avoiding comparisons, noting that legendary players like Ronaldo succeeded by remaining true to themselves.
The Catalan club’s success did not stop there. Midfield star Aitana Bonmatí was crowned Best Female Player of the Year, while Raphinha earned the award for Best LaLiga Player. Head coach Hansi Flick was also recognised as the league’s Best Coach.
Barcelona rounded off a remarkable night by winning Best Team in Spain and Best Women’s Club of the Year.
