A political disagreement within the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State has escalated after party officials at the ward level announced disciplinary action against the party’s state chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa.

The development reportedly occurred in Gargari Ward located in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, where local party executives accused the chairman of actions they described as contrary to the interests of the party.

According to party sources within the ward, the decision was taken during a meeting of the ward executive committee held shortly after the party concluded its national convention. During the gathering, members deliberated on internal party issues before arriving at a resolution regarding Dungurawa’s conduct.

A document produced after the meeting indicated that 27 ward executives endorsed the action by appending their signatures to the resolution.

Allegations Behind the Decision

Officials involved in the meeting cited several grievances against the state chairman. They alleged that his activities had deepened internal disagreements within the party and created tensions among members.

Among the concerns raised were accusations that he contributed to internal conflicts, failed to fulfill certain financial obligations expected of party officials, and made statements considered disrespectful toward Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The ward executives argued that such actions, if left unchecked, could harm the unity and reputation of the party within Kano State.

Ward Officials Present at the Meeting

The meeting where the resolution was adopted was presided over by the ward chairman, Shuaibu Hassan. Also present was the ward secretary, Yahaya Saidu Dungurawa, along with other executive members of the ward structure.

Participants at the meeting maintained that their actions were guided by the provisions of the party’s constitution, which they said allows disciplinary measures against members whose conduct is deemed harmful to the party.

Communication to Party Leadership

Following the decision, the ward executives confirmed that copies of the resolution had been transmitted to several levels of the party hierarchy.

According to the officials, the document was forwarded to the party’s secretariats at the local government, state, and national levels for consideration and possible further action.

In addition, the resolution was reportedly shared with the NNPP’s national leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as well as Governor Yusuf.

Message to Party Members

The ward leadership indicated that the disciplinary move was intended to reinforce accountability within the party structure.

They emphasized that positions of authority within political parties must be exercised responsibly and in line with established rules.

The officials stressed that no member should undermine party unity or disregard organizational guidelines regardless of their rank.

Commitment to Party Leadership

Despite the controversy, the ward executives reaffirmed their loyalty to the party’s national leadership and expressed continued support for Governor Yusuf’s administration in Kano State.

They also pledged to promote harmony among party members and work toward strengthening the NNPP across all levels—from the ward and local government structures to the national stage.

Commentary and Analysis

Internal disciplinary disputes are not uncommon within political parties, particularly in the period following conventions or major organizational changes. Such developments often reveal deeper tensions over leadership authority, internal power dynamics, and ideological direction.

In the case of the NNPP in Kano, the situation illustrates how grassroots party structures sometimes attempt to assert influence over higher-ranking officials. However, political analysts note that decisions taken at the ward level may still require validation by state or national party organs before becoming fully effective.

Observers say the coming weeks will likely determine whether the matter evolves into a broader party crisis or is resolved internally through dialogue and reconciliation mechanisms.
