The Super Eagles of Nigeria capped a dominant Group C campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with an impressive 3-1 victory over Uganda, completing the group stage with a flawless record.

Already assured of qualification, Nigeria showed no signs of complacency, delivering another assured performance to underline their credentials as one of the tournament’s standout teams so far.

The breakthrough came in the 28th minute when Paul Onuachu powered home a header after sustained Nigerian pressure, giving the Super Eagles a deserved first-half lead. Uganda regrouped after the interval and briefly threatened a comeback when Salim Magoola pulled one back in the 56th minute.

Nigeria, however, responded with authority. Just six minutes later, Raphael Onyedika restored the two-goal advantage with a composed finish following a slick midfield exchange. The midfielder struck again in the 67th minute, unleashing a powerful effort to make it 3-1 and effectively put the contest beyond reach.

Uganda continued to fight and found the net late on through Rogers Mato in the 75th minute, but Nigeria remained firmly in control and comfortably managed the closing stages.

The result sees Nigeria finish top of Group C with a perfect nine points from three matches, scoring eight goals and conceding four. Uganda, meanwhile, bow out bottom of the group with just one point, their campaign ending despite flashes of promise.

With momentum firmly on their side, the Super Eagles now turn their attention to the knockout rounds. Nigeria are set to face one of the best third-placed teams from Group A, B, or F in the Round of 16 on January 6.
