Fatima Buhari, daughter of late former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, has alleged that her father’s former private secretary, Tunde Sabiu, exercised overwhelming influence during Buhari’s time in office.
In a post shared on Tuesday via her official 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) account, Fatima claimed that Sabiu, who is also a nephew of the former president, held significant power within the presidency throughout Buhari’s administration.
“My father’s former private secretary, Tunde Sabiu, had too much power during Buhari’s presidency,” she wrote.
Tunde Sabiu was widely known to be close to President Buhari during his tenure and has been linked in public discourse to key policy decisions, including the controversial naira redesign programme introduced ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Fatima’s statement sparked reactions online, with some social media users criticising her comments. One user, Ahmad Sadeeq, accused her of exploiting her father’s legacy for attention.
“You are using Buhari’s family name to chase clout. Allow him and his family to rest,” Sadeeq wrote in response.
Meanwhile, fresh insights into the late president’s personal vulnerabilities have also emerged. Former First Lady, Aisha Buhari, revealed that her husband was susceptible to manipulation by close associates and extended family members.
She made the disclosure in a biography titled From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, written by Charles Omole. According to her account, Buhari’s deep affection for his extended relatives and long-time friends made him vulnerable to individuals who allegedly took advantage of his trust.
Aisha Buhari noted that some family members and old associates exploited these weaknesses during his lifetime, adding another layer to ongoing public discussions about power dynamics within the former president’s inner circle.
