The faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by Hon. Nafiu Bala has declared that it will not support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election ambition in 2027, reaffirming its stance as an opposition bloc.

This position was made public during the inauguration of the party’s zonal and state congress as well as appeal committees, an event held in Abuja on Sunday. The gathering served as a platform for the faction to outline its strategic direction ahead of the next general elections.

Speaking at the ceremony, Bala described the inauguration as a crucial move toward deepening internal democracy within the party and preparing the ADC to function as a formidable alternative in Nigeria’s political landscape.

He explained that the newly constituted committees are tasked with organizing and supervising congresses at all levels — from wards and local governments to states and zones — in full alignment with the party’s constitution and the provisions of the Electoral Act.

According to him, their responsibilities include enforcing constitutional guidelines, overseeing voting procedures, ensuring proper ballot handling, and transparently declaring results in line with approved regulations.

Bala urged party faithful across the country to stay united and committed to strengthening the ADC on the principles of fairness, justice, and equity.

The factional chairman also rejected a recent statement reportedly credited to Hon. Leke Joseph Abijide, which suggested support for President Tinubu’s second-term bid. Bala clarified that such remarks do not reflect the official position of the ADC under his leadership.

“That statement does not represent our stance as a resolute opposition party,” Bala emphasized, distancing the faction from any endorsement narrative and reiterating its determination to remain a credible challenger in 2027.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Abimikun Monday, who chairs the Congress Committee for the North-West zone, described the development as a turning point for the party’s growth and restructuring efforts.

He assured members that congresses under his watch would strictly adhere to the party’s constitutional framework and established procedures, stressing that the confidence reposed in the committee by national leaders comes with a responsibility to deliver credible outcomes.

Echoing similar sentiments, Kaduna State ADC Chairman Sani Aliyu Mohammed reaffirmed the party’s resolve to pursue political power through democratic channels. He noted that intensified grassroots mobilisation and broader state-level organization would form a key part of the ADC’s build-up to the 2027 general elections.
