Super Eagles forward Akor Adams has departed the national team’s camp following Nigeria’s convincing 4–0 victory over Mozambique in the round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations.
The update was confirmed in a short statement released on Tuesday via the Super Eagles’ official X (formerly Twitter) account.
According to the announcement, Adams was excused from camp to attend to a family emergency involving his mother, who was admitted to the hospital on Monday.
“Akor Adams has been granted permission to leave camp to be with his mum, who was hospitalised yesterday.
“We send him our prayers and strength and wish his mum a speedy recovery,” the statement said.
Despite learning of the situation before Nigeria’s match against Mozambique, Adams still featured in the game and went on to score the Super Eagles’ fourth goal against the Mambas.
His commitment and performance earned admiration from supporters, especially in light of the personal circumstances surrounding his exit.
It is yet to be confirmed whether the Sevilla striker will be able to rejoin the squad in time for Nigeria’s quarter-final match scheduled for Saturday.
The Super Eagles will face either Algeria or the Democratic Republic of Congo in the next stage of the competition.
