2027: Fayose Says Peter Obi Is the Only Active Force in ADC

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has highlighted Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, as the only dynamic figure within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing other party leaders as largely inactive.

Obi: The Lone Active Figure

In a recent appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Fayose emphasized that Peter Obi is the central figure keeping ADC politically relevant. He claimed that regardless of whether Obi remained in the Labour Party or switched to another platform like the Accord Party, he would still be the sole active presence.

“Obi is the only life in ADC; the rest are semi-existent. Whether he had stayed in the Labour Party or moved to the Accord Party, he would still be the only active presence. All the others are old forces—they are not really existing,” Fayose stated.

Fayose’s remarks underline the perception that ADC lacks other influential leaders capable of shaping national political discourse, positioning Obi as the party’s key political asset.

Political Alignment and Consistency

The former governor reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 elections while clarifying that he has no intention of joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Openly, I supported Tinubu in 2023. I didn’t hide it. I remain consistent. I don’t switch sides. I have said it repeatedly: I am not an APC member, and I will never be,” Fayose explained.

He stressed that his political stance remains independent, even as he engages with national debates about party influence and leadership.

Commentary on the PDP

Fayose further critiqued the state of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as “technically dead” and ineffective in shaping political momentum. However, he cautioned against blaming Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for the party’s challenges, asserting that Makinde should not be implicated in internal PDP struggles.

“The PDP is technically dead, but Governor Makinde should not be dragged into the party’s troubles,” Fayose noted.

Analysis

Political analysts suggest Fayose’s comments reinforce Peter Obi’s centrality to ADC ahead of the 2027 elections, portraying him as a rare figure capable of sustaining political relevance in a party otherwise perceived as inactive. Fayose’s positioning as a consistent supporter of Tinubu, while maintaining independence from APC, also reflects the nuanced alliances shaping Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
