Former presidential aspirant Dumebi Kachikwu has openly challenged Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara over his handling of political dynamics involving Nyesom Wike. Speaking in an interview with Arise News, Kachikwu argued that Fubara has no basis to complain about Wike after having relied on his support to ascend to power.
“If you willingly accepted Wike’s support to get into office, if you decided to walk with the devil, then you cannot complain about the devil’s behavior because you already knew who the devil was,” Kachikwu said, emphasizing personal responsibility in political alliances.
He further called on Fubara to act transparently if his actions are driven by principle. “If you say your actions today are guided by principle, then principle requires you to be transparent and explain what is truly going on in the state,” he remarked.
Critique of Political Recycling
Beyond the Wike-Fubara issue, Kachikwu criticized the recurrent recycling of old political figures under the guise of delivering “change.” He warned that Nigerians have been repeatedly misled by the same generation of politicians who have held office for decades.
“You can’t ignite a fire and then claim you want to extinguish it. Without a new generation of Nigerians who have never held political office, true change will remain impossible. These people have nothing meaningful to offer,” Kachikwu stated, pointing to the need for fresh leadership.
Emphasis on Accountability
Concluding his commentary, Kachikwu stressed the importance of focusing political conversations on actionable solutions rather than empty slogans. He urged citizens to hold leaders accountable and avoid being misled by career politicians masquerading as agents of change.
“We can’t keep allowing career politicians to mislead us while pretending to be the answer. They are part of the problem,” he said, calling for a shift toward genuine governance reforms.
Commentary and Analysis
Kachikwu’s remarks reflect ongoing tensions within Rivers State’s political sphere, highlighting the enduring influence of Wike and the challenges faced by emerging leaders like Fubara in navigating this power dynamic. His emphasis on accountability and generational change underscores the growing frustration among Nigerians over repetitive political patterns and the need for genuine reform. Analysts note that these criticisms may intensify the discourse on political mentorship and the responsibilities that come with leveraging influential allies in the state.
