Political analyst Abiodun Adeniyi has stated that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is struggling to make firm decisions regarding its 2027 presidential ticket because the party is still undergoing a period of transition and structural consolidation.

Speaking during an interview with ARISE News on Monday, Adeniyi explained that ADC members are taking a cautious approach since the party has yet to attain full stability ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said, “The ADC is still in transition. They are not in a position to make definite decisions because the party hasn’t fully found its footing or attained the level of stability required.”

Adeniyi noted that the party’s greatest challenge is managing internal rivalry among high-profile figures who are all interested in securing the presidential ticket.

He emphasized that the ADC’s progress will depend on compromise and unity among its top contenders.

“The question of who gets the ticket is sensitive, and they must handle it carefully. If everyone insists on being the candidate, there will be issues. But if they can make sacrifices and support the most popular figure—someone capable of challenging the ruling party—then they can make significant progress,” he said.

Speaking about the political prospects of former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal at 60, Adeniyi suggested that Tambuwal still has a viable path to a future presidential bid.

He described Tambuwal as a calm and disciplined politician, recalling how he refrained from responding to criticism from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Adeniyi added, “Tambuwal still has a lot to offer. The presidency remains a possibility for him. He hasn’t openly declared interest in 2027, but I believe it is still an ambition he may pursue.”

He praised Tambuwal’s temperament, noting his refusal to engage in verbal attacks even after parting ways with Wike.

“He remains measured and respectful. He has highlighted Wike’s past support without bitterness or confrontation. His restraint reflects the ADC’s own stage of development—until the party becomes more stable, nothing is certain,” he said.

Adeniyi also suggested that Tambuwal could still secure a Senate seat on the ADC platform if he decided to return to the National Assembly.

He said, “I believe he can return to the Senate under ADC, given his long-standing popularity dating back to 2003 when he began his political journey.”
