Former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, has officially announced his intention to contest the Katsina State governorship election under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Daura made the declaration during a youth sensitisation, mobilisation, and enlightenment programme held in Katsina, the state capital, where he formally unveiled the political platform he will use to pursue his gubernatorial ambition.
Addressing party supporters at the event, the former intelligence chief said the time had come to openly declare his political intentions, urging members of the ADC to remain united, disciplined, and respectful toward one another and the party leadership.
He emphasised that internal harmony and cooperation are vital to the growth and electoral success of the party, expressing optimism that with collective commitment, the ADC would regain its relevance and influence in Katsina State.
“With unity, dedication, and discipline, our party will grow stronger and reclaim its rightful position in the political landscape of Katsina,” Daura said.
Earlier in his remarks, a party leader, Dr Mustapha Inuwa, encouraged ADC members to reject fear and selfish interests, stressing that unity remains the foundation for achieving the party’s goals both at the state and national levels.
He cautioned members against actions capable of undermining the party, urging them to focus instead on collective advancement.
Inuwa also criticised the ruling party, accusing it of weakening farmers’ economic power through policies that encourage food imports despite the increasing cost of agricultural production.
According to him, government policies have shown little sensitivity to the plight of ordinary Nigerians, especially rural farmers.
“To illustrate how severe the situation has become, the proceeds from selling five tiyas of maize can barely purchase a bottle of palm oil,” Inuwa lamented.
He added that farmers now need to sell as many as 50 bags of maize to generate ₦1 million, a development he said reflects a significant decline in purchasing power.
The party chieftain further revealed that 71 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) recently defected to the ADC.
He also disclosed that the entire structure of the Labour Party in the area is in the process of joining the ADC, a move he said would considerably boost the party’s strength ahead of future elections.
