Ken Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser on Media Matters to the Labour Party (LP) National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, has stated that Usman called for reconciliation immediately after the court ruling that invalidated Julius Abure’s leadership of the party.
The court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the Nenadi Usman-led National Caretaker Committee as the legitimate and lawful leadership of the Labour Party.
Justice Lifu, who delivered the verdict, affirmed that the Usman-led committee remains the only valid authority of the party.
Speaking to Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ on Wednesday, Asogwa explained that Usman is setting up a reconciliation committee to unite the party’s factions, emphasising that internal cohesion is essential for electoral success.
“A Labour Party that is divided, lacking unity and cohesion, cannot win the 2027 general elections,” Asogwa said.
He added, “Immediately the judgment was delivered, the first thing the National Chairman did was to call on all warring factions to make peace and come together.
“She described the ruling as a no victor, no vanquished situation and stressed that nobody should celebrate this judgment,” he explained.
