Enugu Rangers continued their resurgence in the 2025–2026 Nigeria Premier Football League with a commanding 2–0 win over Kano Pillars on matchday 24, a result that pushed the Flying Antelopes up to third place on the league table. The defeat compounded Kano Pillars’ struggles as relegation fears grow.

Playing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Rangers wasted no time asserting dominance. Emmanuel Essien broke the deadlock in the 11th minute, giving the home side early control of the contest. Shortly after the restart, Rangers doubled their advantage when Mukhtar Mohammed inadvertently turned the ball into his own net in the 49th minute.

The victory marked Rangers’ 11th win of the campaign and their third success in five matches. Under the guidance of coach Fidelis Ilechukwu, the team has lost just once in their last 10 league games—a narrow 2–1 defeat to Plateau United in their previous outing.

After a slow start to the season, Rangers have gathered momentum and now sit on 39 points, just two behind the league summit. Leaders Rivers United remain ahead with games in hand, a factor that could yet reshape the title race.

Kano Pillars, meanwhile, remain in trouble. The loss leaves them in 18th position after 24 matches, with only two wins from their last five games highlighting their inconsistent form.

In other NPFL action, second-placed Nasarawa United dropped points after being held to a 1–1 draw by Wikki Tourists in Bauchi. Victor Chimezie put the visitors ahead in the 29th minute, but Jonathan Mairiga equalised six minutes later. Wikki missed a golden opportunity to win the match when Ibrahim Shuaibu failed to convert a penalty in the 54th minute.

Enyimba bounced back to winning ways with a narrow 1–0 victory over Bayelsa United, sealed by an 81st-minute goal from Samuel Agu.

In Minna, Bendel Insurance let a two-goal lead slip against Niger Tornadoes. Early strikes from Nnamdi Anthony and Chinedu Nwosu put the visitors in control, but Abdulaziz Dalhatu reduced the deficit in the 60th minute before Rickson Mendos scored late to earn Tornadoes a share of the points.

Attention now turns to four additional fixtures scheduled for today. El Kanemi Warriors host Kun Khalifat, Ikorodu City travel to Kano to face Barau FC, Kwara United welcome Warri Wolves in Ilorin, while Remo Stars square off against Plateau United.

At the top of the standings, Rivers United lead the way with 41 points from 21 matches, followed closely by Nasarawa United on 40 and Enugu Rangers on 39, ensuring the title race remains wide open.
