The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has dismissed circulating reports claiming that its National Leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, placed far-reaching conditions on the All Progressives Congress (APC) during supposed defection discussions.
Recent media reports had alleged that Kwankwaso demanded significant control within the APC, including influence over 20 percent of the party’s national structure, the vice-presidential ticket, and a guaranteed presidential candidacy in 2031.
Responding to the claims, NNPP National Publicity Secretary Ladipo Johnson described the reports as entirely fabricated and part of a calculated attempt to smear Kwankwaso’s image. He emphasized that no such talks ever took place.
According to Johnson, Senator Kwankwaso has never held meetings with President Bola Tinubu or any APC officials—either formally or informally—regarding a potential move to the ruling party.
“It is regrettable that these falsehoods, created by individuals seeking relevance, are now being amplified as headline stories by major newspapers,” Johnson said.
He referenced a recent front-page report that outlined supposed reasons Kwankwaso’s alleged defection failed, stressing that the entire narrative was invented. “That story is completely untrue. Nothing like that ever happened,” he stated.
Johnson further argued that the misinformation was deliberately crafted to undermine Kwankwaso’s credibility but has ultimately fallen flat. He urged Nigerians to ignore such misleading stories, regardless of whether they appear as news reports, opinion columns, or commentary.
“The effort to tarnish Senator Kwankwaso’s name has failed completely,” Johnson concluded, adding that those behind the claims have only exposed their own lack of credibility.
