Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has shared his excitement ahead of a possible first appearance for Atletico Madrid, after completing his move from Italian Serie A side Atalanta.
The Nigerian international took part in his first training session with Diego Simeone’s squad on Tuesday as preparations intensified for Thursday night’s Copa del Rey quarter-final encounter with Real Betis. The clash is expected to mark Lookman’s debut in Atletico colours.
Speaking after training, the forward described the experience as positive, noting that working with his new teammates was enjoyable and helped him settle quickly. He added that he is ready to take his chance if selected.
Lookman finalised a permanent switch to Atletico Madrid on Monday, signing a long-term contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2030. The deal was completed on the final day of the winter transfer window, despite interest from Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo hailed the signing, suggesting the move represents the realisation of a long-standing ambition for the player. He explained that although Lookman attracted attention from several top clubs, financial factors ultimately made his transfer to Atletico possible.
Beyond his footballing career, Lookman has also drawn attention for his passion for Nigerian music. When asked about his favourite artistes at his new club, he named Afrobeats stars Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido as his all-time top picks.
He reiterated his admiration for the trio, listing them as his favourite musicians.
Lookman now joins a growing group of Super Eagles players who proudly celebrate Nigerian music. Fellow internationals such as Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze, Calvin Bassey and Victor Osimhen have previously spoken about their love for artistes including Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, Rema and Olamide. Osimhen has also revealed that Olamide’s music helps motivate him before matches.
