A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Faizu Alfindiki, has questioned the growing political relationship between former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
The APC stalwart argued that many people in Northern Nigeria expected Kwankwaso to concentrate more on strengthening unity among Northern political leaders rather than building what he described as unexpected alliances outside the region.
Northern Unity Should Come First – Alfindiki
Speaking with journalists in Kano, Alfindiki stated that the North currently faces major political and economic challenges that require stronger cooperation among influential leaders from the region.
According to him, issues such as insecurity, agriculture, unemployment, and economic growth demand collective attention rather than political calculations centered on future elections.
He suggested that some Northerners have become uncomfortable with Kwankwaso’s perceived closeness to Obi’s political camp.
Criticism Directed At Peter Obi
Alfindiki also questioned Peter Obi’s public engagement with Northern issues, arguing that many residents expected stronger comments from the former Anambra governor on challenges affecting the region.
He mentioned insecurity, farming concerns, and economic struggles among the key issues where he believes Obi has not spoken forcefully enough.
According to Gossip News Now reports that the APC chieftain maintained that political partnerships should reflect common interests and genuine commitment to national development.
Warning Over Political Alliances
The former Kano Municipal Council chairman further warned that political decisions made by influential figures could shape public perception about their priorities.
He stressed that leaders are often judged by the alliances they build and the political direction they choose to follow.
Alfindiki argued that Northern leaders should focus more on protecting regional interests while still promoting national unity and democratic stability.
Tinubu Administration Praised
Despite criticizing opposition alliances, the APC figure commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for ongoing efforts in infrastructure, agriculture, and road development projects.
He claimed the federal government’s policies demonstrate commitment toward national growth and economic reform.
Alfindiki also encouraged Nigerians to support policies capable of improving stability and long-term development across different parts of the country.
Commentary And Analysis
The latest remarks reflect increasing political tension ahead of the 2027 elections as different camps begin positioning themselves for future alliances and coalition talks.
Analysts believe concerns raised over the relationship between Kwankwaso and Peter Obi highlight wider debates about regional influence, opposition strategy, and political identity in Nigeria.
Many observers also note that Northern political unity remains a sensitive issue, especially as opposition leaders attempt to build broader national coalitions capable of challenging the ruling APC.
While some politicians view cross-regional alliances as necessary for national balance, others believe regional cooperation should remain the foundation of political negotiations ahead of future elections.
