The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State has brushed aside the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a reassembled group of familiar politicians with no capacity to unseat the ruling party in future elections.
The party maintained that irrespective of the political platform adopted by the ADC, it lacks the strength and credibility to challenge the APC’s hold on power, predicting a decisive defeat for the opposition at the polls.
This position was made known on Thursday by the Sokoto State APC Chairman, Isah Sadik Achida, during a broad-based stakeholders’ meeting held in Tambuwal Local Government Area.
The gathering brought together party leaders and members under the banner of the Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto Youths Contact, Mobilisation and Enlightenment Ambassadors, an initiative aimed at consolidating support for the APC’s Renewed Hope Agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Achida argued that individuals regrouping under the ADC are well-known political figures who previously failed to deliver meaningful development to the people of Sokoto State, insisting that they have exhausted their political relevance.
According to him, the APC remains cohesive and well-positioned to retain power, stressing that no repackaged opposition alliance can weaken the party’s expanding grassroots support.
“We know them very well. After eight years, they failed to deliver,” Achida said. “They have nothing new to offer and can only take the state backward.”
He added that Sokoto residents are best placed to judge the performance of successive administrations, noting that Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has, for the first time in the state’s political history, outperformed his predecessor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, even in Tambuwal’s home local government.
Achida credited the current administration’s achievements to its focus on infrastructure and essential services, attributing this progress to the leadership and vision of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
“The APC-led government has brought visible development to the local governments through the visionary leadership of Senator Wamakko, particularly in infrastructure, basic amenities, and inclusive governance,” he said.
He further noted that the administration has given priority to fair representation through appointments and participatory governance.
The APC chairman urged party members and stakeholders to remain united and committed, emphasizing that the party understands how to manage its internal structure and maintain resilience ahead of future political contests.
Also speaking at the event, a party leader and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Aminu Dikko Tambuwal, who represented Alhaji Umaru Nagwari Tambuwal, said Tambuwal Local Government had witnessed remarkable development across multiple sectors since the APC administration took office.
He praised the party’s youth and women wings for their loyalty and hard work, describing their unity and perseverance as key drivers of the APC’s success in the area.
Tambuwal also highlighted the leadership role of Senator Wamakko, portraying him as a unifying figure whose strategic guidance helped produce a focused and resilient governor in Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto.
“We are proud of the quality of governance in Sokoto State today,” he said. “The people of Tambuwal have every reason to appreciate the governor for identifying with us in development and governance.”
He contrasted the current situation with the past, noting that a previous administration, despite being led by someone considered a son of the soil, completed its tenure without making a tangible impact.
Tambuwal further cited several empowerment and development programmes that, he said, have enabled many residents to achieve self-reliance through various trades.
