Ijaw Congress Dumps Fubara Pledges Loyalty to Wike

The Rivers Ijaw Peoples Congress has officially shifted its support from Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Senator George Sekibo, chairman of the congress, made the announcement during Wike’s “Thank You Visit” to Okrika Local Government Area on Saturday.

Sekibo explained that the group chose to abandon Fubara and back Wike due to the minister’s contributions to the Ijaw people over the years.

He described the ongoing feud between Wike and Fubara as “very unfortunate” but emphasized that the Ijaw community remains grateful for Wike’s efforts.

“Do not think we are ungrateful,” Sekibo said. “Ijaw people are appreciative. That is why we have abandoned Fubara and pledged our support to you. You have done so much for the Ijaw people in Rivers, and whatever you advise us to do, we will follow.”

The chairman of Okrika Local Government Council, Akuro Tobin, also praised Wike as his “political godfather,” highlighting the minister’s role in helping sons and daughters of Okrika attain both elective and appointed political positions.

Tobin assured Wike that the men, women, and youths of Okrika LGA are firmly behind him and President Bola Tinubu.

In response, Wike thanked the people for their loyalty and continued support. He described President Tinubu as a man who honors his commitments and urged the community to continue supporting leaders of proven integrity.
