The testimony was provided by Anita Baaki, a physiotherapist and friend of the deceased, through a sworn affidavit submitted before the Ebonyi State High Court as part of the ongoing investigation into the case.

According to Gossip News Now, Anita Baaki explained that she travelled with other ministry personnel from Abuja to Ebonyi State on June 24, 2026, during an official engagement under the supervision of Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi.

She stated that members of the delegation were lodged inside a staff chalet situated within the minister’s country home in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area.

Baaki emphasized that the accommodation was specifically designated for staff members and official associates and should not be mistaken for the minister’s private residential quarters.

Giving details of the final evening she spent with her colleague, Baaki recalled that Mary Habila returned after visiting a salon and briefly stopped by her room.

In her statement, Baaki explained that Mary mentioned she intended to freshen up and rest after what had been a long day. She noted that their conversation ended on a cheerful note, unaware it would be their last interaction.

The following morning, Baaki said she became increasingly worried when Mary Habila failed to emerge from her room as expected.

After making several unsuccessful telephone calls without receiving any response, she decided to personally check on her colleague.

Upon arriving, she discovered that the room remained locked from the inside despite repeated knocks on the door.

Unable to establish contact, Baaki alerted a domestic worker, and together they searched nearby areas within the compound in case Mary Habila had stepped out.

Inside, Mary Habila was found lying unconscious on the floor close to the entrance.

She was immediately transported to the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital in an effort to save her life.
