Leadership Focus

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, has encouraged young Nigerians to reject the temptation of seeking instant success, urging them instead to embrace patience, integrity and hard work as the foundation for lasting achievement.

Speaking during a meeting with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Youth Wing at the State House in Abuja, the First Lady said genuine progress comes through discipline and perseverance rather than desperation for quick rewards.

Key Messages from the First Lady

Addressing the youth leaders, Senator Tinubu stressed that many young people become discouraged because they expect success to come too quickly.

She urged them to trust God’s timing while remaining committed to honest work and personal development.

“God always knows our needs, and that is what the young people do not know; they are always in a hurry.”

She also encouraged them to cultivate contentment instead of measuring their progress against that of others.

“I am teaching you how to learn contentment and not be beggarly.”

Using the eagle as an example, the First Lady challenged the youths to rise above life’s difficulties rather than allowing obstacles to determine their future.

“When the Eagle sees the storm, it flies above it. You should always look for your own path and not because someone else has something, you want it too.”

Story in Context

The engagement formed part of ongoing interactions between the First Lady and youth leaders within the ruling APC as the party continues promoting programmes linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Public engagements by senior government officials have increasingly focused on youth empowerment, leadership development and responsible citizenship, with repeated calls for young Nigerians to build their futures through education, enterprise and productive engagement.

Main Development

Beyond delivering her message on character and resilience, Senator Tinubu commended the APC National Youth Wing for maintaining unity while strengthening party activities across the country, particularly at the grassroots level.

She encouraged the youth leadership to remain committed to communicating the programmes and achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration as part of their responsibility within the ruling party.

To further support their activities, the First Lady presented nine buses to the APC National Youth Leader, Deputy National Youth Leader, zonal youth leaders and the Federal Capital Territory leadership to improve mobility during party programmes and community service initiatives.

Key Outcomes

The meeting concluded with several practical outcomes:

  • The First Lady reaffirmed the importance of patience, integrity, diligence and contentment as values for Nigerian youths.
  • APC youth leaders received encouragement to deepen grassroots mobilisation and continue supporting the party’s programmes.
  • Nine operational buses were donated to strengthen the youth wing’s coordination and outreach activities across the country.

Looking Ahead

The First Lady’s remarks reinforce the administration’s broader emphasis on youth leadership, responsible citizenship and long-term personal development.

As political engagement among young Nigerians continues to grow, her message places renewed attention on character, resilience and disciplined leadership as qualities expected to shape the next generation of leaders, while the newly donated vehicles are expected to enhance the APC youth wing’s organisational and community-based activities nationwide.
