Governor Charles Soludo has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving major road infrastructure projects across the Southeast, describing the move as a significant step toward rebuilding the region and addressing decades of developmental neglect.
The Anambra State governor said the latest approvals reflect the President’s commitment to improving connectivity and economic growth across the Southeast, adding that the projects could leave a lasting mark on the region’s history.
Major Road Projects Receive Presidential Approval
Among the projects approved by the Federal Government are the proposed dualization of the 108-kilometre Otuocha–Anam–Abaji (Kogi) Road and the 150-kilometre Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube (Okigwe Junction) Road, a strategic corridor linking Anambra, Imo, Abia, and the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.
According to Gossip News Now, the governor believes these road projects will strengthen transportation networks, encourage commerce, and improve movement between the Southeast, South-South, and North-Central regions.
How The Approval Came About
Providing insight into the process, Soludo explained that he had earlier presented the request for the road projects during a meeting with President Tinubu at the beginning of July.
He noted that shortly after the discussion, Minister of Works David Umahi reached out to request detailed information on the proposed road corridors. After submitting the necessary documents, the governor said he later received confirmation that both projects had secured presidential approval for their design and procurement stages.
Soludo Says Tinubu Is Writing A New Chapter For The Southeast
Expressing his excitement, Charles Soludo described the approvals as a landmark achievement capable of transforming the region’s infrastructure.
He suggested that the Federal Government’s growing investment in major projects across the Southeast demonstrates a genuine effort to restore critical infrastructure while fostering greater national integration.
In his remarks, the governor indicated that the latest development reinforces his belief that the region is entering a new phase of reconstruction, one that could reshape economic opportunities and improve the quality of life for millions of residents.
Rather than focusing on political differences, Soludo stressed that practical collaboration between governments should remain the priority whenever it delivers meaningful benefits to citizens.
Road Network Expected To Boost Regional Economy
The governor maintained that the two highways are strategically important because they connect several commercial and agricultural communities while improving access between multiple geopolitical zones.
He argued that expanding these transport corridors would ease the movement of people and goods, reduce travel challenges, and stimulate investment throughout the affected states.
Political Cooperation Delivers Tangible Results
Reflecting on the approvals, Soludo said achievements like these demonstrate the value of constructive engagement between leaders at both the federal and state levels.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for responding promptly to the requests, adding that successful governance should ultimately be measured by projects that improve the everyday lives of the people.
Analysis: Infrastructure May Shape Tinubu’s Legacy In The Southeast
The approval of these large-scale road projects is likely to attract significant political and economic attention in the coming months. Improved transportation infrastructure has long been one of the major demands from stakeholders in the Southeast, with many arguing that better road networks are essential for regional trade, investment, and industrial growth.
If the projects progress as planned, they could strengthen economic integration between the Southeast and neighbouring regions while also becoming a defining aspect of President Tinubu’s infrastructure agenda. For Governor Charles Soludo, the development also highlights the potential benefits of sustained cooperation between state governments and the Federal Government in pursuing long-term development goals.
