Minister of Works, David Umahi, has rejected allegations that the life of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is under threat, insisting there is no reason for anyone to wish harm upon the former Anambra State governor.

Speaking during the inspection of major infrastructure projects being executed under the administration of President Bola Tinubu in Ebonyi State, Umahi also advised Obi to stop directing public attacks at the President.

Umahi Responds to Obi’s Allegations

Addressing journalists during the inspection, David Umahi dismissed the claims surrounding threats to Peter Obi’s life, describing such assertions as unreasonable.

The minister maintained that political competition should remain peaceful, adding that every contestant should be allowed to participate freely in future elections without fear.

In his remarks, Umahi suggested that there was no basis for concerns that anyone intended to harm Obi, stating that political rivalry should be settled through the ballot rather than intimidation.

Minister Says Tinubu Deserves Support

Umahi declared that he would continue defending President Bola Tinubu whenever he believes the President is being unfairly criticized.

He made it clear that he would not remain silent if Peter Obi continued attacking the President, insisting that his own responses were aimed at defending what he considers factual achievements of the current administration rather than engaging in personal attacks.

According to Gossip News Now, the minister argued that the Tinubu administration has delivered visible infrastructure projects across several parts of the country, particularly within the South East, and believes such efforts deserve public recognition.

South East Development Central to Umahi’s Position

The former Ebonyi State Governor attributed Peter Obi’s recent comments to political frustration, claiming that the ongoing development projects in the South East have changed public perception within the region.

According to Umahi, many residents now appreciate the federal government’s investment in infrastructure and increasingly support the continuation of the present administration’s policies.

He further argued that the South East has witnessed projects that had previously been neglected, making the region more connected to national development initiatives.

Umahi Ready for Public Debate

The Minister of Works also expressed his willingness to engage Peter Obi in an open discussion on the performance of the current administration.

He said such a debate would provide an opportunity to compare records and examine the impact of ongoing infrastructure projects across the country, especially those being executed in the South East.

Umahi maintained that political discussions should focus on measurable achievements and governance outcomes instead of persistent criticism.

Calls for Continued Backing of Tinubu

Reaffirming his confidence in President Bola Tinubu, Umahi encouraged voters in the South East to continue supporting the President, arguing that the region has benefited from increased federal attention under the present administration.

He expressed optimism that additional developmental projects would be completed if the administration continues its current policies, while urging residents to acknowledge what he described as tangible progress.

Commentary and Analysis

The exchange between David Umahi and Peter Obi reflects the increasingly competitive political atmosphere as conversations surrounding the 2027 general election continue to gather momentum. Public disagreements among leading political figures are expected to intensify as parties position themselves ahead of future campaigns.

While Umahi has defended the Tinubu administration’s performance, supporters of opposition parties are likely to continue scrutinizing government policies. Ultimately, the effectiveness of governance, infrastructure delivery and public confidence are expected to remain central issues that shape political debates in the months leading to the next election.
