The World Health Organisation (WHO) has issued a fresh warning regarding the recent Hantavirus outbreak connected to the cruise vessel MV Hondius, stressing that health officials are still monitoring the situation closely despite efforts already taken to contain the spread.

The update was delivered by WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus during a joint media briefing in Madrid alongside Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, following the evacuation of passengers and crew members from Spain’s Canary Islands.

Although international health agencies have stated that the overall global threat remains low, authorities say the situation is still being carefully observed because the virus may take time before symptoms appear in exposed individuals.
