The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has openly criticised politicians he believes are promoting disloyalty within the political space, warning that betrayal often returns to those who encourage it.
Speaking in Port Harcourt during the commissioning of the Rivers State secretariat of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, the former Rivers governor addressed party members and political supporters on the dangers of backing individuals he described as unfaithful to political agreements and leadership structures.
According to Wike, politicians occupying sensitive offices should be careful about the alliances they build, stressing that acts of political betrayal could eventually damage the ambitions of those supporting such behaviour.
The FCT Minister explained that no political office holder is exempt from the consequences of encouraging disloyal conduct, whether they are governors, ministers, senators, or lawmakers. He argued that politics operates on principles of loyalty and trust, adding that leaders who tolerate betrayal today may eventually become victims of similar actions tomorrow.
He further noted that politicians planning reelection campaigns or seeking to hand over power to preferred successors must avoid empowering individuals who disregard political loyalty. In his view, such moves could later destabilise their own political structures and weaken future ambitions.
At the event, discussions also focused on political mobilisation ahead of future elections. Wike insisted that support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Rivers State does not depend solely on the endorsement of a sitting governor.
The minister stated that Rivers already possesses strong political networks capable of driving grassroots mobilisation independently. These, he said, include party executives, local government officials, lawmakers, and members of the National Assembly drawn from both the APC and PDP.
He maintained that many of those currently supporting the President’s agenda had joined voluntarily out of personal conviction rather than political pressure or influence.
