Umahi Challenges Obidients to Compare His Achievements With Peter Obi’s
Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has responded strongly to criticisms from supporters of Peter Obi, insisting that his record in public office should be compared objectively rather than through insults.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony of the Babban-Lamba Sharam Road (Phase II) project in Plateau State, politics daily updates reveal that Umahi urged members of the Obidients Movement to focus on facts by examining the performance of both leaders during their respective tenures as governors.
Minister Lists Political Experience
Highlighting his political journey, Dave Umahi pointed to the various offices he has occupied over the years, including Party Chairman, Deputy Governor, Governor, Senator, and now Minister of Works.
He argued that a fair comparison should be made between his accomplishments in Ebonyi State and those of Peter Obi during his administration in Anambra State, rather than resorting to personal attacks.
The minister maintained that criticism is acceptable in a democracy but insisted it should be based on evidence and delivered respectfully.
Umahi Says Personal Insults Are Unacceptable
Addressing those who have criticised him online, Umahi stated that political disagreements should never degenerate into abuse.
He stressed that while citizens are free to question government officials, they should do so constructively instead of engaging in personal insults.
According to Gossip News Now, the minister reaffirmed that public debate should centre on governance, performance and development rather than inflammatory exchanges.
Minister Accuses Peter Obi of Politicising Road Projects
The latest comments come shortly after Dave Umahi criticised Peter Obi over his assessment of a federal road project.
According to the minister, the former Anambra State governor misrepresented ongoing construction work by photographing a damaged section of the road and sharing it on social media.
Umahi argued that such actions create a misleading impression of government projects and reduce serious governance issues to political point-scoring.
Debate Challenge Remains Open
The Minister of Works also questioned Peter Obi’s understanding of public administration, saying he was disappointed by the former governor’s approach to discussing infrastructure projects.
Confident in the work of his ministry, Umahi declared that he remains prepared to publicly defend the cost and execution of federal road projects.
He expressed his willingness to engage in an open debate where both sides could examine the financial details of road construction and discuss issues relating to governance and project implementation.
Political Tension Continues Ahead of 2027
The exchange reflects the growing political rivalry between key figures as discussions surrounding the 2027 general election continue to intensify.
With supporters of different political camps increasingly engaging in public debates, disagreements over governance records and infrastructure development are becoming central themes in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
Analysis: Performance Records Likely to Dominate Political Debate
The latest remarks by Dave Umahi indicate that political conversations ahead of 2027 may increasingly revolve around measurable achievements rather than campaign promises alone. By inviting comparisons between his administration in Ebonyi State and Peter Obi’s tenure in Anambra State, the minister is attempting to shift public attention toward governance records.
Whether such comparisons ultimately influence public opinion will depend on how voters evaluate the performance of both leaders. As political activities gather momentum, debates over infrastructure, economic management and leadership experience are expected to remain prominent in the national conversation.
