Abia PDP Says It Will Contest 2027 Election Without Political Alliance
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has firmly denied reports suggesting it is negotiating a political alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that the party remains fully prepared to contest independently.
Speaking at the party’s secretariat in Umuahia, the Abia State Chairman of the PDP, Abraham Amah, according to political news coverage by GNN recently maintained that the party has no agreement or understanding with any political organisation regarding the upcoming polls.
Party Leadership Insists PDP Remains United
According to Abraham Amah, the Abia PDP remains cohesive and focused despite speculation surrounding possible coalition arrangements.
He stressed that anyone making claims about an alliance is expressing a personal opinion rather than the official position of the party.
The chairman further explained that the party leadership is confident in its organisational strength and believes it has what it takes to compete successfully without relying on another political platform.
Candidates Already Submitted to INEC
Amah disclosed that the party has completed the submission of its candidates’ names for various elective positions through the official portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He said the successful completion of that process demonstrates the party’s commitment to participating fully in the elections under its own banner.
According to Gossip News Now, the Abia PDP leadership also ruled out the possibility of allowing any other political group to use its platform during the 2027 electoral process.
No Internal Crisis, Says Abraham Amah
Responding to reports of division within the state chapter, Abraham Amah dismissed suggestions that the party is factionalised.
He explained that the current leadership has already initiated reconciliation efforts involving aspirants who contested the party’s primary elections.
The reconciliation exercise, he noted, is designed to strengthen internal unity, encourage cooperation among party members and position the PDP for a stronger outing at the polls.
Kelechi Anosike Promises Better Welfare for Workers
Meanwhile, the PDP governorship candidate in Abia State, Kelechi Anosike, outlined part of his economic agenda if elected governor.
He pledged to introduce a ₦90,000 minimum wage for civil servants, arguing that workers deserve improved welfare and a more equitable salary structure.
Anosike also criticised the current wage implementation in the state, alleging that the existing administration has not fully applied the ₦70,000 minimum wage across all categories of workers.
Labour Welfare Placed at the Centre of Campaign
Beyond the proposed salary increase, Kelechi Anosike said his administration would prioritise policies aimed at improving the wellbeing of public servants.
He argued that enhancing workers’ welfare would contribute to increased productivity, better service delivery and stronger public confidence in government.
Analysis: PDP Signals Confidence Ahead of 2027
The latest remarks from Abraham Amah indicate that the Abia PDP intends to approach the 2027 elections as an independent political force rather than seeking strength through alliances.
At the same time, Kelechi Anosike’s promise of a higher minimum wage introduces workers’ welfare as a major campaign issue that could shape political discussions in the state. As preparations for the election continue, the party’s ability to maintain internal unity while convincing voters of its policy direction may play a significant role in determining its electoral prospects.
