Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has praised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the ongoing infrastructure projects across the country as clear signs that Nigeria is moving toward national recovery and economic growth.

Speaking during an inspection of a major federal road project in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, the minister maintained that the progress recorded in road construction reflects the government’s determination to rebuild critical infrastructure while creating opportunities for citizens.

According to Gossip News Now, Umahi argued that the impact of the current administration is becoming increasingly visible through improved transportation networks and economic activities surrounding construction projects.

Road Development Driving National Progress

The Works Minister stressed that a reliable road network remains one of the strongest foundations for sustainable development. He noted that newly completed and ongoing highways have significantly reduced travel time, improved connectivity, and enhanced movement of people and goods.

He explained that motorists and commuters who regularly use the reconstructed routes can easily notice the difference compared to previous years, adding that quality infrastructure directly contributes to productivity and economic expansion.

Infrastructure Projects Creating Employment Opportunities

Beyond improving transportation, Umahi said the road projects have generated thousands of direct and indirect jobs across different sectors.

Rather than focusing only on construction workers, he highlighted the wider economic chain benefiting from the projects. According to him, businesses supplying building materials and other local services are also experiencing increased demand.

Among those benefiting, he mentioned:

  • Suppliers of cement and reinforcement materials.
  • Quarry operators providing stone aggregates.
  • Sand vendors serving construction sites.
  • Small-scale traders selling farm produce and everyday goods to workers.
  • Transport operators moving equipment and materials.

He emphasized that these activities inject money into local communities and support household incomes.

Minister Links Infrastructure to Improved Security

The minister also suggested that sustained investment in public works can contribute to improved security by providing legitimate sources of income for many young Nigerians.

He explained that expanding employment opportunities through construction projects can discourage unemployment-related crimes, noting that productive engagement offers people better alternatives than illegal activities.

Umahi Describes Tinubu as a Leader on a National Mission

During his remarks, Dave Umahi expressed strong confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, stating that the administration’s commitment to infrastructure demonstrates a genuine effort to transform the country.

In his view, the ongoing road developments represent practical evidence of government intervention aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians rather than mere promises.

Analysis

The Federal Government has continued to prioritise road construction as one of its major economic strategies, with several highway projects underway across different regions of the country. Supporters of the administration argue that improved transportation infrastructure can stimulate commerce, attract investment, and strengthen regional integration.

However, despite these developments, concerns over the rising cost of living and economic hardship remain central issues in national discussions. Analysts believe the long-term success of the infrastructure programme will depend on how quickly its economic benefits translate into improved living conditions for ordinary Nigerians.
