The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has suffered another major setback as over 100 members from Tarai in Kibiya Local Government Area defected to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

The defection, confirmed on Wednesday through a statement by the Director of Public Enlightenment in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Balarabe Kiru, underscores the growing political realignment in support of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration.

The defectors, led by APC Woman Leader Hajiya Sabuwa Tarai, said their decision to join the NNPP was inspired by the governor’s developmental strides and people-oriented governance.

“We are impressed by the numerous projects executed by Governor Yusuf both at the local and state levels,” Tarai said. “His leadership style has rekindled our confidence in the NNPP’s vision for a better Kano.”

Welcoming the new members, Kano State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Alhaji Adamu A. Kibiya, praised their decision and assured them of equal treatment within the NNPP.

“You have made the right choice by joining the NNPP, a party that truly prioritises the welfare of the people,” Kibiya said. “You will enjoy the same rights and privileges as every other member, and together, we will continue to strengthen our party at the grassroots.”

He encouraged the defectors to support the government’s programmes and work collectively to sustain the achievements of Governor Yusuf’s administration.

The statement further revealed that more APC members from nearby wards in Kibiya Local Government are expected to follow suit in the coming weeks, as the NNPP intensifies its grassroots mobilisation campaign across the state.
