The newly elected National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ini Ememobong, has condemned the violent confrontation at the party’s Wadata Plaza headquarters in Abuja, describing it as both shameful and regrettable.

Gossip News Now reports that Ememobong made the remarks on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme. He said the clash reflects a worrying decline in Nigeria’s democratic culture and raised questions about the legitimacy of the disputed meeting.

Ememobong lamented that Nigeria’s electoral processes seem to worsen with each cycle, noting that party members were exposed to unnecessary risk. He recalled past incidents in which Nigerians lost their lives due to tear gas during political events, criticizing the ruling party for fostering hostility toward the opposition.

He said:
“Is that a NEC meeting? Every NEC meeting must be monitored by INEC. It’s very shameful and a pity that this is happening after six election cycles.

“Democratic consolidation should be firm. Democratic norms should be valued and form part of our way of life. Sadly, every election cycle seems to be getting worse.

“In a democracy, the majority will have their way, and the minority will have their say. But what we see now is a minority trying to impose its will on the majority.”
