A disagreement has emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) following remarks by Abdullahi Atah, the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development. The minister recently responded to criticism from the party’s Kano State chapter, describing the accusations against him as unnecessary and counterproductive.
The issue began after a letter circulated by the Kano APC leadership accused Atah of making statements that could potentially create divisions within the party. The letter, reportedly signed by the state chairman Abdullahi Abbas, alleged that the minister was speaking as though he represented the entire party and that some of his comments might cause internal tensions among members.

Part of the minister’s argument centred on recent actions taken by President Bola Tinubu, who reportedly postponed several international engagements in order to concentrate on urgent domestic security matters. The engagements said to have been affected include a G-20 Summit in South Africa and an African Union meeting scheduled in Angola.
Atah emphasised that such developments highlight the importance of unity among political leaders during periods of national difficulty. According to him, political actors should channel their energy toward supporting the government rather than fueling internal disputes.
The minister also reiterated his loyalty to both the APC and the president, insisting that his commitment to the party has been demonstrated over time through dedication and active participation.
In defending his remarks, he pointed out that democratic principles protect the right of party members to express opinions about the future direction of their political organisations. For him, raising ideas about strategy ahead of future elections should not be mistaken for rebellion or disloyalty.
Atah concluded his response with a defiant tone, suggesting that if offering sincere opinions about the party’s path forward is considered a mistake, he would accept the criticism. However, he insisted that his intentions were motivated by loyalty to the party and a desire to see it succeed.
