Manager Marco Silva has spoken about what Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze must demonstrate if he hopes to secure a long-term future at Fulham F.C..
Chukwueze is currently spending the season at Fulham on loan from Italian giants AC Milan, with an agreement that reportedly includes the possibility of a permanent transfer. The potential deal is believed to be valued at roughly €23 million.
Although the winger has not yet started a match in the Premier League, he has still managed to make an impact from the bench. In his limited appearances so far, the Nigerian international has registered a couple of assists in league games.
Speaking before Fulham’s upcoming London derby against Tottenham Hotspur F.C., Silva explained that the coaching staff recognise the player’s talent but want to see sustained improvement before discussing a permanent move.
According to Gossip News Now reports that, the Fulham boss stressed that the key factors in Chukwueze’s development will be regular commitment in training, maintaining performance levels, and adapting physically to the demands of English football.
Silva suggested that the Premier League’s pace and intensity often require players to adjust their style and conditioning before reaching their best form. In his view, consistent performances over time will determine whether the club moves forward with the purchase option.
While Chukwueze’s situation continues to evolve in England, another Nigerian midfielder has been reflecting on his own European experience. Frank Onyeka recently discussed how his loan period at FC Augsburg influenced his development as a player.
The midfielder, who is contracted to Brentford F.C., spent the 2024–25 campaign in Germany where he played regularly and gained valuable experience.
During that spell in the Bundesliga, Onyeka appeared in over thirty league matches. The exposure helped him improve his understanding of high-tempo football before returning to Brentford.
Reflecting on the differences between the leagues, Onyeka noted that Bundesliga teams tend to emphasise constant forward movement and intense running. According to him, the relentless pace of matches in Germany forced him to adapt quickly and improve his stamina and decision-making.
Commentary and Analysis
The experiences of Chukwueze and Onyeka highlight how loan spells often play a critical role in shaping the careers of professional footballers. For young or developing players, these temporary moves provide opportunities to adapt to different tactical systems and competitive environments.
For Chukwueze, the coming months at Fulham could determine whether he remains in England on a permanent basis. If he continues to deliver impactful performances—even in limited minutes—he may strengthen his case for a full transfer.
Onyeka’s story, meanwhile, demonstrates how playing in multiple European leagues can broaden a player’s skill set. Exposure to different styles of football—from the physical demands of the Premier League to the high-tempo nature of the Bundesliga—often helps players become more versatile and tactically aware.
Both players represent Nigeria’s growing presence across Europe’s top leagues, and their development will likely remain closely watched by fans and national team observers alike.
