Nigeria’s Special Eagles have secured a spot in the football final at the inaugural West Africa Zone A and B Para Games in Abeokuta, following impressive performances in the group stage.

Monday’s action saw Cameroon narrowly defeat Benin in the opening fixture, while Liberia stunned spectators with a 7-0 triumph over the same opponents in their second match.

The final group game between Nigeria and Liberia ended in a goalless draw, confirming both teams’ progression to the final. The championship clash is scheduled for Wednesday at MKO Abiola Stadium, coinciding with the closing ceremony.

Earlier in the tournament, Nigeria had edged past Cameroon 1-0 on Sunday and delivered a commanding 11-0 victory over Benin in their opening match. The team’s disciplined defensive display against Liberia proved sufficient to secure their place in the final, keeping the Special Eagles among the favourites to claim the title.

Nigeria continued to assert its dominance across other events, leading the medal table with four gold medals as local athletes impressed across multiple disciplines.

One standout performer was Kebbi para-badminton player Ibrahim Tukur, who captured gold in his category at the West Africa Para Badminton Championship. Representing CST/KBTV Badminton Club in Birnin Kebbi, the one-handed athlete has quickly emerged as one of Nigeria’s most inspiring rising stars. Club officials lauded his determination, hailing him as a symbol of motivation for athletes living with disabilities.

Ghana also made notable strides on day three, securing eight medals and improving their standing in a competition featuring more than 700 athletes from across West and Central Africa.
