Popular Nigerian comedian and Nollywood actor, Ayo Makun, widely known as AY, has strongly criticized the government following the tragic road accident involving British-Nigerian boxing champion Anthony Joshua.

Recall that the world heavyweight boxer was involved in a crash on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, specifically around the Makun area of Ogun State. Reports indicate that Joshua was travelling in a Lexus SUV when it collided with a stationary truck, leading to the death of two occupants. The boxer, however, escaped with minor injuries.

Reacting to the incident via his Instagram page, AY described the situation as heartbreaking and avoidable, blaming systemic failures within Nigeria’s road safety framework, infrastructure, and leadership.

According to the entertainer, the tragedy highlights how poorly human life is valued in the country, stressing that the loss of lives was not a result of destiny but the consequence of long-standing negligence.

AY lamented that despite Nigerians being celebrated globally for excellence, they continue to face danger and insecurity at home due to unsafe roads and weak emergency response systems. He called for urgent accountability, improved infrastructure, and stronger enforcement of safety standards.

He further expressed sympathy for Anthony Joshua and the families of those who lost their lives, offering prayers and urging the government to take decisive action to prevent future tragedies.
