Darlington Orji, the Special Adviser to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has asserted that the ongoing attempt to impeach the governor will not succeed.
Speaking during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Orji insisted that the allegations being pushed by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly hold no substance.
He emphasized that the accusations leveled against Governor Fubara—including claims of misconduct and financial wrongdoing—can only be properly defined or interpreted by the Assembly itself.
Orji stated, “Let me be very clear, this impeachment process is going nowhere because it is built on false premises. And as you pointed out, only the Assembly can determine what constitutes misconduct or misappropriation.”
He further noted that several impeachment efforts across Nigeria have been dismissed by the courts for failing to comply with proper legal procedures.
“In our situation,” he continued, “I may not be a lawmaker, but I know what is happening on the ground. We have spoken to many of the legislators involved. A good number of them are my friends, and we have worked closely in the past.”
According to him, even the lawmakers driving the impeachment are not confident or pleased with the process. He expressed optimism that the entire issue will soon be resolved.
“From everything we’re seeing,” Orji added, “before this week ends or by early next week, this whole impeachment matter will be laid to rest.”
