New information has surfaced regarding the planned 2027 collaboration between Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, confirming that both sides have formed a joint committee to build political support within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
A reliable insider from Obi’s team told Sunday Punch that the committee was set up roughly a month ago and given the responsibility of developing strategies to secure a combined presidential ticket on the ADC platform.
“We’ve gone beyond mere discussions; progress is underway. A committee is already in place for the alliance, and everything is beginning to align,” the source revealed.
Also confirming the development, the National Legal Adviser of the New Nigeria Peoples Party and prominent Kwankwasiyya Movement leader, Magaji Ibrahim (SAN), stated that Kwankwaso is open to working with Obi in any capacity—either as president or vice president.
Ibrahim, who disclosed that he is part of the committee, added that the alliance efforts had moved to a more advanced level.
He said, “Talks between Kwankwaso and Obi are ongoing, and there is indeed a committee handling the coordination of the alliance. It is made up of representatives from both sides, and I am a member.
“We are committed to working together, whether for the top position or the second. The main focus is rescuing the country.”
Addressing the possibility of Kwankwaso joining the ADC, Ibrahim explained that discussions were taking place between the party’s leadership and key figures within the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
“We are in talks with the ADC leaders right now. There is an initiative for us to meet, but that meeting has not yet happened,” he said.
However, he stressed that any move by Kwankwaso to join the ADC would depend on the party’s presidential lineup.
“I don’t think we can consider anything less than the second position,” Ibrahim stated when asked whether Kwankwaso might join the ADC without securing a presidential or vice-presidential spot.
