The team of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has downplayed claims that the potential alliance between Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, poses any form of challenge to Atiku’s political relevance.

Responding to the development in an interview with Sunday Punch, Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, stated that the former Vice President remains unbothered by the ongoing talks, emphasizing that Atiku is committed to pursuing his own political path.

“There is no threat whatsoever; there simply cannot be. Kwankwaso is free to join the ADC because the party is open to patriots who believe Nigeria is facing a critical moment and must be rescued. That does not constitute a threat to Atiku,” Ibe said.

He added that Atiku fully acknowledges the freedom of political figures to form alliances and take decisions without viewing such actions as rivalry.

“Everyone has the right to chart their own political journey. Atiku is quietly going about his activities, doing what is required of him, and others are equally free to do the same,” he noted.

Reaffirming that Atiku has no fears about new political formations, Ibe stressed, “Atiku is not in any way threatened; he does not feel threatened and will not be threatened by anyone’s political ambitions.”

According to him, Atiku’s primary focus remains the future and stability of Nigeria rather than personal aspirations.

“He wants a better Nigeria, and just like the party is open to welcoming individuals who understand the seriousness of the current national challenges, Atiku shares that sentiment.

“For him, the more people committed to national progress, the better—and that should guide every conversation within the party,” Ibe added.
