Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is aware of the steps he needs to take to avoid impeachment by the State House of Assembly.
Gossip News Now reports that Olayinka made the comments on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Wednesday, amid ongoing political tensions in the oil-rich state.
Dismissing allegations that Wike was orchestrating moves against the governor, Olayinka emphasised that any impeachment process is strictly a legislative matter.
“It is not Wike who is behind any move to impeach Fubara; this is a matter for the House of Assembly,” he said.
He added that political survival requires careful strategy and composure rather than public complaints or theatrics.
“If Fubara doesn’t want to face impeachment, he knows what to do. Politics demands navigation, not public weeping,” Olayinka said.
The political rivalry between supporters of Wike and Fubara has intensified in recent months, marked by court rulings, protests, and divided loyalties within the State Assembly.
Naija News notes that certain lawmakers, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, had previously initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara, raising concerns about political stability in Rivers State.
