Legal proceedings involving former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai have taken a fresh turn as he formally rejected allegations of illegal surveillance brought against him by Nigeria’s security authorities.
The case, which is being handled at the Federal High Court in Abuja under Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, centers on claims that El-Rufai unlawfully intercepted sensitive communications and engaged in actions considered a threat to national security.
According to Gossip News Now, prosecutors from the Department of State Services (DSS), led by Oluwole Aladedoye (SAN), introduced an updated five-count charge to replace an earlier set of accusations. The court accepted the adjustment after the defence, represented by Oluwole Iyamu (SAN), confirmed it had no objection to the change.

Additional disagreements arose over trial procedures. The defence opposed plans for back-to-back hearing dates, pointing out that El-Rufai’s current custody situation under the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) could limit his access to legal counsel.

Meanwhile, both sides clashed over an application seeking to dismiss the amended charges, with the prosecution insisting the case holds merit.
