Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed concern over the muscle injury suffered by striker Viktor Gyokeres during the Gunners’ 2-0 victory over Burnley on Saturday.
Gyokeres, who joined Arsenal in the summer for £64 million, opened the scoring at Turf Moor before being withdrawn at half-time. The 27-year-old has yet to return to training and will miss Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Slavia Prague.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Arteta confirmed the Swedish forward is unavailable for the upcoming fixture.
“No, he’s definitely not available. He hasn’t trained today. We need more tests and scans in the coming days to understand the extent of the injury.”
When asked whether the injury might be minor, Arteta admitted he feared the problem could be more serious.
“I am concerned because he hasn’t had many muscular issues, and he needed to leave the pitch feeling something. That’s never a good sign, especially for a very explosive player. We are investigating further and will update once we know more.”
Gyokeres has made an impressive start to life in North London, scoring four Premier League goals and adding pace and power to Arsenal’s attack. His absence comes as a blow to the squad, with Arteta confirming seven players are currently sidelined — including Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, Noni Madueke, and Gabriel Jesus.
