Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has dismissed the recent order by an Oyo State High Court permitting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to proceed with its national convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan.

The court ruling, delivered by Justice A. L. Akintola on Monday, directed the PDP and its acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, to move ahead with the convention, despite an existing order from a Federal High Court in Abuja suspending the process.

Reacting on Tuesday, Fayose criticized the decision, arguing that a State High Court lacks the authority to override or countermand a ruling from a Federal High Court.

He described the move as an act of desperation by certain party elements attempting to force the convention process, insisting the ruling was ineffective and unenforceable.

“How do you approach a State High Court to obtain an ex parte order directing INEC to monitor a national convention when a Federal High Court had already ruled otherwise just five days earlier?” he questioned, asserting that the order “cannot stand.”

Fayose also called on the National Judicial Council (NJC) to investigate the circumstances surrounding the ruling, alleging judicial misconduct.

He expressed confidence in newly appointed Acting National Chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman, saying the party is now in a recovery phase and must begin rebuilding from internal crises.
