The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of treating legitimate criticism as a personal attack and exhibiting what it described as a pattern of incompetence in governance.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi reacted to remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently designated Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) over allegations of widespread attacks on Christians.

Trump also stated that he had instructed the U.S. Defense Department to make contingency plans for possible military action if the Nigerian government fails to address the killings.

Abdullahi clarified that neither the ADC nor the U.S. government accused Nigerian authorities of deliberately persecuting Christians. Rather, he argued that the government’s defensive response misses the core issue.

“Nobody is accusing the government of religious bigotry,” Abdullahi said. “The problem is that the APC views any form of criticism as an attack, and over time has demonstrated historical incompetence in handling key national challenges.”

He added that the CPC designation should not be seen as political opportunism but as a troubling reflection of how Nigeria’s security crisis is being perceived internationally.

“We feel embarrassed as Nigerians that outsiders are framing our security challenges in ways that risk deepening national divisions,” he stated.
