Popular Nigerian dancer and choreographer Kaffy has urged parents to educate their children about personal boundaries and empower them to confidently say “no” to any form of unwanted physical contact — even from familiar adults.

In a heartfelt video shared on her Instagram page, the mother of two recounted her own childhood experience with inappropriate behaviour from a trusted family friend, emphasizing that such incidents often occur right under the noses of unsuspecting adults.

Kaffy noted that abusers don’t always appear threatening, as they often come across as kind, helpful, or overly affectionate individuals. She therefore cautioned parents not to be overly trusting of people around their children, including relatives, nannies, and drivers.

According to her, teaching children to recognize and assert their boundaries is essential for their emotional safety and self-confidence. She also discouraged adults from making comments about children’s bodies or showing physical affection without consent.

She said:

“It happened right in front of people who trusted the person. At that age, I didn’t understand what was going on, but I knew something about it was wrong.

Many of them appear caring — they’re often the ones who always want to help or stay close to the child. That’s why parents must pay attention and set clear boundaries.

Be cautious of the favourite uncles, aunties, nannies, and drivers. Boundaries are important because many children experience uncomfortable situations from those closest to them.”

Kaffy encouraged families to create safe environments where children feel respected, listened to, and confident enough to speak up when something feels wrong.
