Nigerian comedian Destalker has opened up about how his journey into comedy started after an unsuccessful attempt at internet fraud.

Gossip News Now reports that he shared his early struggles during an interview on the In-house Gist podcast, recounting his brief venture into online scams while living in Enugu.

He revealed that a close friend introduced him to the practice, but he could not follow through due to his gentle nature.

Interestingly, that same friend has since become a Christian cleric.

Destalker explained that the two of them would spend long nights at cybercafés, paying for extended browsing sessions to try and make money online.

While his friend focused on scamming people, Destalker preferred chatting with family and old schoolmates until he fell asleep.

He soon realized that internet fraud was not the right path for him and decided to pursue a better direction in life.

The comedian said the experience taught him important lessons that strengthened his confidence and determination.

Despite facing rejection and being denied opportunities in the entertainment industry, Destalker remained focused and eventually achieved success on his own terms.

He said: “Before I left Enugu, I tried internet fraud with one of my friends who is now a pastor, but I wasn’t successful. We would book night sessions at a cybercafé for N250. I couldn’t afford it then, so my friend always paid for me. He is now a prominent pastor, Rev. Nelson Umeh.

“While he was scouting for victims online, I spent my time chatting with my family, friends, and old schoolmates from Ughelli on Facebook. Then I would fall asleep. There’s no point in overspending when you’re on the wrong path.

“Today, it’s a different story. Internet fraud was never my destiny. I can’t defraud anyone because I’m kindhearted. Everything I went through helped me grow confident that no one can stop me from reaching my goals.

“Some comedians claimed I wouldn’t perform at certain shows without their help, but I told them I would succeed regardless. And I did. Some of those shows are now extinct, and some of those comedians are no longer relevant.”
