A market check carried out by Gossip News Now on Thursday shows that the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), popularly called cooking gas, has begun to decline in several major retail outlets nationwide.
Findings from the survey indicate that Conoil currently sells LPG at ₦1,080 per kg, while AP offers the same product for ₦1,000 per kg.
This drop comes only a few weeks after many dealers were selling cooking gas for up to ₦1,500 per kg, a spike they attributed to older stocks bought at higher rates.
The latest price adjustment gives consumers hope that cooking gas costs may continue to fall, especially at a time when many families are struggling with increasing living expenses.
Gossip News Now also recalls that the Federal Government had instructed the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to step up inspections at LPG depots to curb hoarding.
According to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Dr. Ekperikpe Ekpo, the earlier surge in prices was caused by two key issues:
- The PENGASSAN strike at the Dangote Refinery
- Maintenance work at the NLNG Train 4 plant, which limited local supply
He, however, assured Nigerians that supply challenges were beginning to ease.
