Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has reiterated his call for the Super Eagles to fight for a place at the FIFA World Cup.
After missing out on the last tournament in Qatar, the Nigerian squad is determined not to repeat the disappointment.
Gossip News Now reports that the team moved closer to their goal on Thursday with a commanding 4-1 victory over Gabon in the playoff semi-final. This win secured their spot in Sunday’s final against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Rabat, where qualification hinges on a single game.
Speaking after the Gabon clash, Osimhen told ESPN that he believes the team has all it takes to keep Nigeria’s World Cup ambitions alive. “We can get it done,” he said. “We have the players to make this dream a reality because everyone in the squad wants to be at the World Cup.”
Despite the optimistic atmosphere, there is a notable setback: Wilfred Ndidi will miss the crucial final after being suspended due to accumulated yellow cards. His absence, according to defender Chidozie Awaziem, is a significant challenge for the team.
Awaziem expressed his concerns to reporters in Rabat following the Gabon win. “We’re definitely going to miss him [Ndidi],” he admitted.
However, the centre-back stressed that the squad remains confident in the players who will step in. “We have other players who can fill that role and perform well. We trust everyone. The coach trusts everyone and their abilities. I just hope whoever takes Wilfred’s spot gives their all so the team can secure the victory,” he added.
Sunday’s decisive match in Morocco will determine which team advances to the inter-confederation playoffs scheduled for March 2026.
