Flamingos captain Shakirat Moshood has been named among the final three nominees for the 2025 CAF Women’s Young Player of the Year award.
Moshood captained Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team at the World Cup in Morocco this October, earning widespread acclaim for her leadership both on and off the field.
Although the Flamingos exited in the Round of 16 under coach Bankole Olowookere, Moshood’s individual performances stood out as one of the highlights of Nigeria’s campaign.
Her development has also been evident at club level. The forward enjoyed an impressive season with Bayelsa Queens, contributing significantly to their successful bid for the Nigeria Women’s Football League title earlier this year.
Moshood now faces stiff competition for the award. Last year’s winner, Moha El Madani of Morocco, is widely considered a strong contender, while Senegal’s Adji Ndiye has also been recognized for her remarkable rise in African women’s football.
Nigeria has also earned another nomination in the CAF Awards. The Super Falcons have been shortlisted for the Women’s National Team of the Year, following a solid season that reaffirmed their position as Africa’s premier women’s team.
They will compete against Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses and Ghana’s Black Queens for the coveted accolade.
