Renowned Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has shared her ordeal surrounding a recent surgery that almost cost her life, urging everyone to prioritise their health.
Gossip News Now reports that in an interview with Punch, Omotola revealed that while some might view the procedure as routine, it represented the most serious medical crisis she has ever faced.
The actress explained that her body finally gave out after enduring months of intense work-related stress.
She recounted being rushed to the emergency room multiple times before doctors confirmed that she required urgent surgery, a revelation that left her terrified.
Omotola discovered a scar on her abdomen after the operation, and was told by her surgeons that the procedure could not be performed through minimally invasive keyhole surgery because her gallbladder had become severely enlarged.
She decided to go public with her experience to encourage others to take their health seriously.
She said, “Some might think it wasn’t life-threatening, but for me, it truly was. I had never faced anything like this before. I had been rushed to the ER several times and was constantly working—editing my films Mother’s Love and RR across two continents, often sleeping just two hours a night. My body was completely overworked. Eventually, after repeated hospital visits, I was told I needed immediate surgery. It was shocking and terrifying. My husband wasn’t around, and my kids were scared.
After the surgery, I noticed a scar on my stomach. The doctors explained that my gallbladder was too enlarged for keyhole surgery. It was a lot to take in. I now tell everyone: if you experience sharp pains in your chest or back, don’t wait—get a CT scan or MRI immediately.”
