Supporters of rival factions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clashed violently at Wadata Plaza, the party’s national secretariat in Wuse, Abuja, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, as both sides vied for control of the premises.
Photos shared by Daily Trust showed chaotic scenes of party members exchanging punches, arguing heatedly, while heavily armed police officers struggled to maintain order.
Gossip News Now reports that tensions quickly escalated into near-physical confrontations, reflecting the ongoing power struggle between the Turaki-led faction, headed by newly elected National Chairman Kabiru Turaki, and the Wike-aligned faction, led by Samuel Anyanwu on behalf of Minister Nyesom Wike.
The Turaki camp, which includes governors such as Seyi Makinde of Oyo and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, forcefully entered the secretariat after the Anyanwu/Wike group reportedly gained early access by mid-morning. Police deployed teargas, and clashes broke out between supporters and security operatives as both factions jostled for control.
Governor Bala Mohammed, representing the Turaki faction, was reported saying, “We are not leaving. There is no court order stopping our meeting.”
The confrontations coincided with simultaneous meetings scheduled by the factions: the Wike-aligned camp had planned sessions for the National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT), while the Turaki-led faction convened its inaugural National Working Committee (NWC) meeting.
Turaki had earlier told the media, “We are going to have our inaugural National Working Committee meeting… our meeting is 10 a.m. tomorrow. I, as the national chairman of PDP, will be leading from the front.”
The Wike camp continues to assert that the previous leadership remains valid and disputes the legitimacy of the recent convention that produced Turaki.
Outside Wadata Plaza, supporters of both factions demonstrated with placards and shouted slogans. Eyewitnesses reported teargas canisters being deployed, while some claimed that police appeared divided, raising allegations of bias.
