Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has successfully brokered peace between his deputy, Kola Adewusi, and aggrieved leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ife Federal Constituency, putting an end to weeks of internal tension within the ruling party.
The reconciliation took place at a peace meeting in Osogbo, attended by Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Dr. Lere Oyewumi, Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, Adewusi, and other top stakeholders.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke described the conflict as a product of communication gaps and external attempts to destabilize the party, stressing that unity had now been restored.
He said:
“Throughout this meeting today, I see Ile-Ife PDP very truly united. Now that we have seen the roots of the matter, I charge us to get back to work. Ile-Ife is a PDP territory. Go back and sustain the tempo.”
The governor also commended party elders, leaders, and operatives for demonstrating maturity and unity, while assuring that his administration had already delivered tangible projects in Ifeland and would continue to do more.
PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, also played down the crisis, describing the no-confidence vote as a mere “family affair,” and praised stakeholders for resolving their differences in the interest of the party.
Recall that on September 1, PDP leaders in the Ife Federal Constituency had passed a vote of no confidence in Adewusi, former PDP National Secretary Prof. Wale Oladipo, and Ife East PDP Chairman Olasunkanmi Makinde, accusing them of aligning with ex-lawmaker Bimbo Ajilesoro, who defected to the APC.
According to reports, the dispute was also linked to speculations about a possible replacement of Adeleke’s deputy ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
With the reconciliation, party stakeholders believe PDP members across Ifeland’s four local government areas can now close ranks and rally support for Governor Adeleke’s re-election bid.
